This year, the KunstRAI in Amsterdam presents a special tribute to Hong Kong’s vibrant art scene. Although the two cities may not seem comparable at first glance, the connection arises naturally: both are trading hubs where international influences and local traditions constantly intertwine.

Within the global art market, Hong Kong has further solidified its position. Major players such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s maintain a strong presence, and the city serves as a vital link between Asia and the West. With the arrival of eight galleries, KunstRAI presents a compact selection of contemporary art from Hong Kong, showcasing how artists navigate the space between tradition and an international context.

The participating galleries – Blue Lotus Gallery, Contemporary by Angela Li, JPS Gallery, Lucie Chang Fine Arts, SC Gallery, Soluna Fine Art, 3812 Gallery, and 10 Chancery Lane Gallery – bring together a selection of artists with diverse backgrounds and practices.

Many of these galleries are based on Hong Kong Island, in districts such as Sheung Wan, Central, and Wong Chuk Hang, where a high concentration of galleries has emerged in recent years. In Amsterdam, these galleries and their artists are provided with an international stage and the opportunity to reach a new audience.

SC Gallery provides an experimental platform for local artists under the leadership of Sharon Cheung Po-Wah, with a focus on installations and multimedia works.

At 3812 Gallery, the emphasis lies on artists from Hong Kong itself, with work that connects different generations and media. Traditional techniques find new life in contemporary ink works.

For photography enthusiasts, Blue Lotus Gallery offers a visual retrospective of Hong Kong. From Fan Ho’s iconic black-and-white photography to the work of contemporary photographers, a visual narrative is created where past and present converge.

Contemporary by Angela Li and Soluna Fine Art also highlight individual artist practices. At Soluna Fine Art, this results in a more serene presentation, where identity and transformation take center stage.

The Hong Kong presentation at KunstRAI is organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO Brussels), which is committed to promoting economic, trade, and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Europe.
