Frank Tang (b. 1988, Hong Kong) received his Master of Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2023, and Bachelor of Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University. His practice is marked by his explorations into ways of integrating not only the traditional aesthetic language, but also the experiential and philosophical concerns of shanshui art into contemporary idioms. He had previously participated in artist-in-residence programs in Zurich by The Zurich University of the Arts in 2014, and in Treasure Hill Artist Village, Taiwan, in 2022, and is the recipient of Grant Award by Muses Foundation (2012), the Louis Mak Chinese Painting Award (2012), AVA Award (2010), Yau Sang Cheong Chinese painting Award (2009).
Tang’s solo exhibitions include, “Whispering Canopies” (Karin Weber Gallery, 2023), “You are here” (Gallery Exit, 2022), “While I was away” (Gallery Exit, 2017). His joint exhibitions include “The sunshine is still there” (SC Gallery, 2022), “Ink City” (Tai Kwun, 2021), “Humor in Ink” (Taoyuan Museum of Fine Art, 2021), “Hidden Forest” (Asia Society Hong Kong Center, 2019), “A Taste of Hong Kong” (Les Halles de Schaerbeek, Belgium, 2016), and “China 8 – Tradition Today – Ink Painting and Calligraphy” (Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen, Germany, 2015). His artworks have been exhibited in museums, art organizations and galleries in Germany, Switzerland, Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
