SC Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition of Kurt Chan, Jacky Tao, Wong Shun Yu, IV Chan, and Jeremy Fung, from emerging to well-established artists, at the Hong Kong art section of KunstRAI 2026. These five distinctive voices reflect the creative speciality that has shaped Hong Kong’s contemporary art, showcasing a rich diversity of materials—from ink and silk to experimental mixed media and wood—that highlight the depth of the city’s artistic language.
Kurt Chan (b. 1959) began his artistic journey with traditional Chinese ink and continues to push boundaries through experimentation with mixed media. Jacky Tao (b. 1996) explores contemporary scenes—such as 7-Eleven convenience stores—through the meticulous technique of Gongbi painting, which he also applies to acrylic on canvas. Wong Shun Yu (b. 1994) also engages with Chinese ink traditions, working on Japanese silk and incorporating techniques such as dyeing, printing, weaving, and embroidery, lending his work a sense of fluidity and uncertainty. In contrast, IV Chan (b. 1978) delves into the intricate relationship between the human body and mind through soft sculptures made of colourful fabric.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Fung (b. 1990) presents abstract sculptural paintings that bring out the textures and features of wood through techniques ranging from free-flowing brushstrokes to carving and grinding. Together, the artists bridge classical methods with contemporary sensibilities and highlight the tactile presence of materials.
Through the dialogue of form and material, viewers are invited to experience how each work opens a space for observation and reflection. Placed side by side, the five practices reveal both individual voices and a shared curiosity, offering a moment to sense how Hong Kong artists navigate material, tradition, and imagination.
